If you like Chicken Noodle Soup, you are going to absolutely love this more elevated, mature version. My Lemon Chicken Orzo soup is as light, healthy, and cozy as the classic. It uses wholesome, everyday ingredients and is packed with subtle, feel-good flavor.

I think this soup is the perfect meal to have between seasons. When the weather is just starting to cool down between fall and winter or when winter slowly turns into spring but it’s still chilly, this is the soup you want to break out.

The bright, lemony broth gives a burst of lightness to this soup recipe that also makes it great for spring and summer months.

In other words, if you’re a soup-lover year-round, this is the dish you’ve been looking for.

Not to mention, making this Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup fills your home with the most amazing aroma – and it’s budget-friendly! My orzo soup uses everyday kitchen ingredients—lemon, chicken, orzo, broth, and veggies.

The star of the show in this recipe truly is the lemon. It is a complete game-changer with its bright, citrusy flavor profile. The acidity of the lemon balances out the salty flavors of the dish and allows all the flavors to stand out distinctly without being too heavy or overwhelming.

Think of it like balsamic vinegar with bread and olive oil or the pickles in burgers.

I highly recommend using freshly squeezed lemon juice, rather than pre-packaged lemon juice from the grocery store. Not only is this going to make your soup taste so much better, but it will also ensure you’re not getting any additives that help with shelf life.

If you are a big fan of lemon and want a more intense flavor, try grating in some lemon zest.

Why I Love This Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup

The best thing about making recipes like this one with wholesome foods and pantry staples is that each ingredient serves a purpose and stands out on its own. From the olive oil which adds a subtle pepperiness to the chicken broth which adds increased depth to all the flavors, every element of this dish pulls together to create a beautiful soup dish for any occasion.

With the delicious veggie base of carrots, celery, onions, and garlic, you’ll experience exactly how hearty and satisfying this soup is for weeknight dinners, friends/family gatherings, or quick lunches.

Plus, it’s so easy to cook and clean up with a super simple soup recipe like this one. I love using my Our Place Perfect Pot for this recipe. Not only is it beautiful, but it is multi-functional as well. Made toxin-free and lightweight, the Perfect Pot moves seamlessly from the stovetop to the dinner table so you can cook this soup in the same pot you use to serve it!

Additionally, this soup is so easy to make ahead of time or store for a long period of time. You can store it in an airtight container for up to a week in the refrigerator or freeze it for up to two months.

Know that orzo is very absorbing, which means you may need to add more broth when reheating leftovers. Alternatively, if you’re making this recipe ahead of time, you can cook your orzo separately and add it directly to your bowls when it’s time to serve.

This Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup is great on its own or with one of these sides for a more hearty and filling meal:
